Kevin Kelly was able to define the current importance of the online world and what is to come in the future with just six words. “In general these are the long term trends as we look forward over the next twenty years”.
Screening, interacting, sharing, flowing, accessing, generating.
The fifth of these, accessing, focuses on the movement to a world where we just access our information and media instead of own it. Kelly uses the example of Netflix to explain his fifth verb; Netfilx is an on demand internet streaming network where users pay a fee to have access to many different films and TV series. Spotify is another example of this within the musical industry.
There is the argument that assess is in the future of music and that the ownership of music no longer matters. We no longer care about owning media, and would not pay to own it, but we are happy to pay for the access to it.
